Whitenoise was tasked in 2009 to put the ‘Grand’ back into the Grand Opera House Belfast and to deliver on the vision - ‘Enriching Lives’. The desire to generate a sense of public ownership of the theatre and to ignite a sense of occasion when visiting informed our work, and when developing the new brand we were sympathetic to the theatre architect, Frank Matcham, and the Victorian design landmarks within the building.
After a soft launch of the identity and positive public feedback, the new brand was rolled out onto show programmes, outdoor campaigns, advertising collateral and GOH TV, all celebrating the heritage of the theatre whilst promoting their new offering. Post launch, the new brand has enjoyed the success of being awarded a commendation at the prestigious Institute of Designers in Ireland Awards.
The tangible results of great design? In 2011 the Grand Opera House recorded their second best festive run in the theatre’s history, with a massive increase in ticket sales of 53%.
