Introducing Aurion Learning
Whitenoise has created educational videos in collaboration with Aurion Learning, a Belfast-based learning and development company that specialises in crafting incredible custom digital learning solutions for a range of clients, including HSENI.
The Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland (HSENI) is the leading body responsible for promoting and enforcing health and safety at work across Northern Ireland: their mission is to ensure that workplaces are safe, healthy, and compliant with legislation, to reduce work-related death, injury, and ill health, while fostering a culture of prevention and accountability.
The Brief
Aurion Learning engaged with Whitenoise, to create a video content series to be hosted on their High5 eLearning design framework, which would be used by HSENI to support staff training programmes to deepen understanding of suicide, offering practical tools to help participants engage in lifesaving conversations and confidently intervene when concerned about someone's well-being. This weighty subject matter needed to be handled with care and authenticity: as one of Northern Ireland’s most experienced videography teams, Whitenoise was the ideal creative partner to effectively communicate this important work.
Our Solution
It was essential that these videos performed as learning aids, above all else. Clear, digestible messaging was paramount, and influenced our approach to both filming and editing, to ensure a clear, cohesive narrative for viewers.
The subject matter was sensitive and emotive, and our videography team worked with care to ensure that the output felt authentic, genuine and considered, to best support and resonate with trainees.
The care and highly professional approach was implemented at every stage of the process, and included the appointment of professional actors, a specialist crew and copywriter, to ensure that a team of highly skilled professionals were bringing their individual skillsets to ensure the highest quality results.
Noting the scope of ‘micro’ stories, we also recommended the creation of a series of short cut down’s of the long-form videos for wider use, as added-value to assist and amplify the messaging.
The Results
Whitenoise is committed to creating world-enhancing work, and this videography project absolutely meets that internal benchmark. We categorise this work as Design for Good: creative work that elevates a cause, and betters the lives of those who see it.
Following the success of the initial e-learning platform launch, we were delighted to work with Aurion Learning on a follow up contract, producing six scenario based training videos for HSE’s National Suicide Prevention Office. These videos are designed to highlight best practices when supporting individuals who may be struggling with suicidal thoughts. The scenarios range from everyday occurrences such as speaking with a team mate from the local GAA team to professionals working with patients in an Emergency Department situation.
"Whitenoise were, and are, are a big part of the HSE Suicide Prevention Training initiative, as our video partners. We look to combine our own in-house team with trusted partners where it will give the best solution. The quality of the footage and the management of the shoot from your team is a key part of the impact this solution will have in saving lives."
- Gavin Woods, Managing Director at Aurion Learning
"Getting to work on something that aims to truly help people is something that motivates us all - so when a job such as the Suicide Prevention project lands, it has extra weight behind it.
My role on this project was the Director of Photography which meant working closely with our team of videographers, photographers, ligihting and sound specialists, alongside the team at HSE and Aurion Learning to best visually represent the fictional script and characters on camera.
We wanted each scenario to come across as realistic and immersive as possible. Therefore I kept things pretty simple, choosing to avoid over-the-top and over-produced lighting setups or camera movements. Our creative direction left room for the actors and the message they had to deliver to take centre stage.
Although this was a multi-day production there were still many factors that required speed, knowledge and professionalism that only an experienced crew can provide.
Honestly I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to work on this project and the whole experience was only made better due to the fantastic cast and crew who were involved."
