Ulster University and Whitenoise
Beginning our creative partnership in 2016 and launching into a full creative services contract in 2021, Whitenoise are responsible for the delivery of all communications collateral and media for Ulster University, spanning numerous business functions and areas. Our creative input includes the development of student recruitment campaigns, prospectus documents, graduation ceremony materials, academic documents, reports and papers, strategy and report documents, and business/alumni event materials. Additionally, we produce film and animation for internal and external marketing and advertising for Out of Home, web and digital / social channels.
Whitenoise has become a valued and essential creative partner, fully immersed in the culture and priorities of the university and committed to delivering successful creative outputs. This mutual respect, strength of relationship, and high service levels across all areas is evidenced in our continuously rising quarterly KPI scorings and in being dubbed as ‘an extension of their team’ and our studio being dubbed the ‘Whitenoise campus’.

Summer Graduation campaign
An exercise in diligence, detail and delivery, the UU Summer Graduation campaign rolls out across multiple touchpoints including print, large format / Out of Home, video, animation, digital and social.
Based on a highly energetic, flexible design system developed specifically for this campaign, the Whitenoise team were engaged in the delivery of all assets to a tight delivery deadline. The results were flawless and perfectly captured the celebratory feel of this special time in each student's life.
Ulster University's requirements for broadcast-quality videography as an essential component of its marketing communications was fully realised when they appointed Whitenoise. Our film team, backed up by our award-winning animation team, deliver broadcast quality film content on a weekly basis, ensuring that the 'UU difference' is captured with stunning clarity.
Utilising the highest quality cameras and filming equipment is only part of the secret - our industry-leading editors finesse each shot to deliver powerful, compelling films that tell the UU story with power and emotion.
A beautifully executed series of custom illustrations bringing the four UU campuses to life and guiding students through buildings, facilities and recreational areas as they settle into university life. Navigating a university campus can be daunting, bringing challenges of finding the proper buildings at the right time, along with where to park, where to refill water bottles, purchase lunch and seek assistance. With this new illustration-led approach the university's campus maps are colourful, use friendly and accessible.
This illustration project appears in print, in-campus and across digital platforms, with creative use of animation to deliver detail and direction to new students as they start their UU journey in 2022/2023. By partnering up with the talented Us Folk and Ink and Water for illustration style and web development, these maps took on a life of their own with immersive and accessible virtual experiences made available throughout campuses with scannable QR codes. As a digital asset, the campus maps now offer the university valuable analytics and location data, allowing the maps to be continually updated and improved to reflect the engagement and emerging needs of students and visitors.
Other work and services
Working closely with the university’s MarComms team and subject matter specialists from various departments, Whitenoise works with efficiency to deliver exceptional creative output which adheres to the existing brand guidelines whilst also strategically extending them to optimise deliverables for specific requirements. Other projects delivered for the university include the design of the annual student prospectus (undergraduate/postgraduate and associated materials), event identity design and materials, in-house research project identity design and creating various documents, reports, presentations and publications.
Our close working relationship is underpinned by seamless communication between the university and our client services team, who manage all project briefs, ensuring that each project is delivered within budget and deadline, meeting the client’s objectives and high creative standards.
